Letters....

Been writing letters and waiting to receive his address so we can mail them out...  I have gotten 4 from him, but nothing from the commander (or whatever his title is) with the address to reply...

How long does it normally take to get the address after they leave for Boot Camp?

  1. It can take 2-3 weeks to get an address if that's how long the drill sergeants want to make them wait. Usually it's within a week or two, and it's about a 12 second phone call (literally - hi i'm alive here's my address love you bye *click*)

Just keep writing. Your letters are what will help him get through boot camp :)

  2. Hi! I stumbled upon your blog and thought I'd say hi. When my husband went to BCT, it took him a couple of weeks to mail me a letter with a return address. Every BCT is different, though, so just keep writing. The first letter I sent to SoldierMan had almost 2 weeks worth of writing in it. And it got there well after other, shorter ones got there. Just keep writing, and when that big bundle gets there, it will make his day!

    1. so far i think i have about 15 ready to go, tonight i was at the ballpark writing him while watching the kids play and wrote 11 and as I was writing people kept coming up and writing him a little paragraph or so so it looks like a long newsletter ") My daughter bought a card for him and when he opens it it plays a justin beiber son.. Oh lord, Im afraid to send it, I know the drill instructor will make him pay for that... lol

    2. Ha, well, it'll be a memory, that's for sure! Some places make them do pushups for letters. SoldierMan's didn't, but they're all different. A friend of mine always sent hers to her husband with lots of hearts on the envelope and sprayed with perfume...he had to do extra pushups for every little heart! Mine were like newsletters, too. I kept him up to date on our favorite shows and what was going on with our friends, I even printed off news articles I thought he would like. He said it helped him feel less cut off from the world. He didn't have a whole lot of time to read/write every day, but he always had plenty to read that way. If you do send the Beiber card, you have to tell us how it goes! haha. And no matter what, remember - this too shall pass!

  3. Hi, someone posted the link to this blog on a group I belong to. I went through BCT at one point but had to leave due to injuries and I'm now an Army wife so let me know if you have any questions!

As far as the address, from my experience it can take a couple of weeks. The first week-week and a half is a lot of in-processing, doing the PT test, etc. You don't actually know which company and definitely not what platoon you'll be in until after all of that stuff gets sorted out. He won't know his address until then because part of his address will include Company, Platoon etc. I know it can get frustrating for the family but hang in there!
